Published by the Nature group, although editorially independent, Nature Medicine aims to publish the most exciting advances in biomedical research and is the most highly cited research journal in preclinical medicine. It welcomes original research articles in the fields of cancer biology, cardiovascular research, gene therapy, immunology, vaccine development, and neuroscience.

Research Articles:

  • The main text of the manuscript should be no more than 3,000 words, with up to 60 references. This excludes the Abstract, Methods, References and Figure Legends.
  • The Abstract should be no more than 150 words and should be unreferenced.
  • A maximum of six display items (figures/tables) can be included.
  • The main text should begin with an unheaded introduction, followed by sections headed Results, Discussion, and Methods. The Results and Methods should be divided into topical subheadings, while the Discussion should not contain subheadings.
  • Spelling is in American English.

 

Letters:

  • These report important and novel research results, but in a less substantial format than research articles.
  • Letters should begin with a 200 word paragraph summarising the background, findings and implications of the research.
  • The text following this is limited to 1,500 words, excluding Methods, References and Figure Legends. There should be no more than 40 references, and a maximum of four display items is permitted.
  • There should be no headings in the Letters format, except for the Methods.

 

Brief Communications:

  • This submission type reports a concise study of high quality and broad interest.
  • Brief Communications should not exceed three printed pages, with a maximum of 1,000 words plus References and Figure Legends.
  • These should begin with an unreferenced abstract of no more than 70 words. Titles can be no longer than 90 characters.
