Dr. Cathy Thaler

Dr. Cathy Thaler earned her BSc in Biology, with an emphasis on organismal and marine biology, from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She later earned her PhD. in Biology, with an emphasis in cell biology, from the University of California, Riverside. After several years of post-doctoral research she accepted a faculty position at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Dr. Thaler recently returned to the University of California at Riverside as an Assistant Research Biologist and Lecturer.

Dr. Thaler’s training incorporates a broad background in cell, molecular, and developmental biology, as well as reproductive biology. Her research endeavours began with work as a mariculturist studying captive breeding of Homarus americanus. Since graduate school she has focused on cell signalling events in diverse cell processes including regulation of organelle transport in fish melanophores, neurotrophin requirements for peripheral neuron survival, and sperm-egg interactions during fertilisation and egg activation. She is currently focusing on activation and regulation of waveform of sperm motility. Her research studies have used a number of organisms, including mouse, rat, sea urchin, mollusks, fish, and insects.

In addition to writing her own research publications, review articles, and grants, Dr. Thaler has been editing life science and biomedical research manuscripts professionally since 2003.
