Dr. Alison Moran

Dr Alison Moran acquired an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, with honours in biochemistry. She obtained a PhD from the University of Glasgow, with doctoral research focusing on the physiology of antibiotic production and antibiotic resistance mechanisms in Streptomyces species.

Her postdoctoral experience in microbial pathogen research includes tuberculosis vaccine development and design, as well as extremophile isolation and genetic manipulation. Her work has formed the basis of a number of patents. Alison has also taught undergraduate courses in subjects such as microbial pathogenesis, microbial physiology and the microbiology of wastewater. In addition to microbiology research, she has also been involved in a number of nutrient cycling and plant physiology studies.

Alison has been with Bioedit for five years and has edited several hundred manuscripts during that time. The topics she covers include the following: microbiology and pathogenesis; proteomics; plant signalling, development and stress tolerance; animal development and physiology; and medical trials. In addition to editing original research papers, she also edits reviews and press releases.
