Dr. Claudia Copeland

Dr. Claudia Copeland holds a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, specialising in parasitology and tropical medicine (Tulane University), and has completed postdoctoral fellowships in molecular entomology (United States Dept. of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service) and computational genomics (University of Leipzig, Germany).

Her scientific research has been published in the Journal of Virology, Gene, International Journal for Parasitology, BMC Evolutionary Biology, Journal of Parasitology, Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Molecular Genetics and Genomics, Neotropical Entomology, Florida Entomologist, and BMC Genomics, as well as academic book chapters.

This research, which ranged from bench molecular biology and computer-based genetic studies to gathering fruit fly-infested guavas in Mexican cloud forest, includes: molecular parasitology, retrotransposons/retroviruses, tropical medicine, parasite genetics, molecular evolution, molecular entomology, sex-ratio determination/parthenogenesis, noncoding RNA, and computational genomics.

Dr. Copeland enjoys writing and helping authors to improve their manuscripts, and has extensive experience working with authors who are non-native English speakers. She has edited manuscripts and in the following fields, among others: virology (particularly retrovirology and tropical virology), parasitology, entomology, general molecular biology and biochemistry, agricultural studies, environmental studies, evolution, epidemiology, public health, tropical medicine, neuroscience, toxicology, oncology/cancer-related biology, photomedicine/laser surgery, stem cell biology, clinical trials, and case reports.
