Dr. Lauriebeth Leonelli

Dr. Lauriebeth Leonelli received her BA in Biological Sciences from Mount Holyoke College after completing a senior honors thesis with Dr. Amy Frary. Her thesis explored the genetic control of tumorigenesis in tomato plants in response to Agrobacterium tumefaciens and exogenously applied IAA. Impelled by her undergraduate research, Dr. Leonelli continued her research experience in the laboratory of Dr. Scott Coonrod at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University where she studied the role of histone modifications in mammalian cell fate determination. Though fascinated by mammalian epigenetics, Dr. Leonelli returned to her true passion and obtained her Ph.D. in Plant Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her dissertation work in the lab of Dr. Brian Staskawicz explored the role of the oomycete protein, ATR13, in plant pathogenesis from a structural, biochemical, and genetic perspective.
