Dr Jane Murfett - Plant molecular biology
Dr Jane Murfett has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and a Ph.D in plant molecular biology, both from the University of Melbourne, Australia. For her Ph.D. she studied the expression of self-incompatibility genes in Nicotiana species. She worked at the University of Missouri for 14 years, first as a post-doctoral research associate, and then as a research assistant professor, studying self-incompatibility and molecular aspects of signal transduction involving the pant hormone, auxin. She has published 16 articles in scientific journals, including the prestigious journals Nature and Cell, and has received several highly competitive grants from the United States government. Since 2005, she has worked as a science editor and has edited journal articles and textbooks on a variety of topics, mainly in the areas of molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, and plant biology.
